Santo Domingo. – Merchants from different sectors of the National District, especially in El Manguito, denounced this Wednesday that the constant blackouts of up to five and six hours a day are putting their businesses at risk and generating economic losses.

Some have described the situation as "very serious" and accused energy distributors of charging increasingly high bills despite the poor service. "There are three and four daily blackouts and the electricity bill does not go down, on the contrary, it goes up more. The Government must intervene, because we cannot work like this," they expressed.

In the sector, testimonies reflect concern. José Martínez explained that perishable products such as sausages spoil easily, while Wilson Encarnación pointed out that his closed premises become unbearable for customers and employees: “With an air conditioner and four light bulbs we pay more than four thousand pesos a month, and when there is no electricity we can hardly serve.”

Other merchants, such as Fran Polanco, explained that the blackouts interrupt billing, causing discrepancies with customers and delays in work. "Every time there is no electricity we are paralyzed, and that means losses. Today we had a terrible one", he expressed.

The affected parties demanded that the authorities, just as they receive high bills, also guarantee a stable and quality electrical service. Meanwhile, uncertainty grows among merchants, who fear that the situation will worsen if immediate measures are not taken.
