INTRANT will convert the Santo Domingo boardwalk into a family and tourist route, with construction to reduce high speed

Santo Domingo. – Within the framework of the 8th National Road Safety Week, the National Institute of Transit and Land Transportation (INTRANT) presented the Malecón Traffic Calming Project, a comprehensive intervention aimed at reducing road accidents and strengthening safety in one of the city's most emblematic spaces. The project includes the installation of 170 new vertical signs, 700 meters of rumble strips (vibralines), 10,500 linear meters of road markings and raised pedestrian crossings at critical points. All these measures are aimed at reducing speed, alerting drivers more clearly and organizing the road to prevent risky maneuvers. The work is accompanied by the Mayor's Office of the National District (ADN), the Santo Domingo Tourist Cluster and the Santo Domingo Hotels Association, which are integrated as strategic allies in the initiative.

Morrison stated that this work responds to "**a historical debt to the road safety of the Malecón**", and emphasized that the Government of President Luis Abinader maintains as a priority the protection of life through multi-sector actions that are already affecting the reduction of road accidents. He stressed that the goal is to close the year with significantly lower figures, especially in the critical points of the city. The INTRANT explained that the Malecón, although it is one of the most visited and valued places by the citizenry, presents high levels of road risk. In the last three years, this road has recorded 20 serious accidents, 11 deaths and 41 injuries, figures that motivated the urgent intervention of the sections with the highest incidence of accidents.
