Washington.- The President of the United States, Donald Trump, hinted this Friday that he might be considering limited military action against Iran as a pressure measure to reach an agreement with Tehran to limit its nuclear program. "I guess I can say I'm considering it", he replied to questions from the press at the White House about a possible smaller-scale attack on Iranian territory, near which the U.S. has ordered a large deployment of warships.

Trump's statements come after this Thursday, during the first meeting of the Peace Board in Washington, set a deadline of ten days to decide whether to intervene militarily in Iran or not. Both CNN and the newspaper The New York Times have reported this week that the United States military is prepared to imminently attack Iran, pending final presidential authorization. In fact, the U.S. military deployment around Iran has increased in recent weeks. The aircraft carrier U.S.S. Gerald R. Ford, which was part of the Caribbean fleet during the operation against Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro, was approaching the Strait of Gibraltar this Wednesday to join the U.S.S. Abraham Lincoln, already stationed in Middle Eastern waters, according to The Times. The U.S. military buildup also includes dozens of refueling tankers, more than 50 additional fighter jets and two aircraft carrier strike groups, along with their destroyers, cruisers and submarines, U.S. officials told the newspaper. Parallel to the military activity, the United States' conversations with Iran are maintained by special envoy Steve Witkoff and Trump's son-in-law Jared Kushner. Israel is also preparing for a possible joint attack with the United States, according to The New York Times, which cites two sources from the Israeli Defense.
