Santo Domingo. - President Luis Abinader led this Wednesday the official launch of the "Peace Guarantee Christmas 2.0" Operation, a massive national security deployment coordinated by the National Police, the Ministry of Interior and Police, and the Armed Forces, with the aim of ensuring peaceful, orderly, and crime-free festivities throughout the country.
During the event, held at the National Police Palace, the director general of the institution, Major General Ramón Antonio Guzmán Peralta, highlighted that this operation will have 22,794 police officers and more than 5,000 military personnel, who will reinforce the presence in commercial areas, avenues, residential areas, transportation terminals and tourist destinations.
"Christmas represents a time of family union and hope. It is the duty of the National Police that every citizen can enjoy these festivities with a guarantee of security," he expressed.

He indicated that the agents already have bodycams, taser guns, tonfas, handcuffs, pepper spray, regulation weapons and multi-purpose belts, in addition to a renewed uniform that reflects a new institutional mentality. Raful reported that the country recorded a rate of 9.58 homicides per 100,000 inhabitants, the lowest figure in almost a decade, thanks to a sustained strategy from the Joint Task Force, where Police, Armed Forces and Public Ministry work in coordination. The minister specified that in the last three years the homicide rate decreased by 32%, and that currently 28 provinces present single-digit statistics, a record never before achieved in the country. Raful announced that the operation incorporates the largest promotion of new agents, reaching almost 25 thousand police officers on duty for the Christmas season.
