“Toy en Visa” celebrates William Swaney's return to the DR as U.S. Consul General.

Santo Domingo. – The migration advisory company “Toy en Visa” and its director Edgar Jesús, celebrated the return of William Swaney to the Dominican Republic as the United States Consul General. The migration advisor, Edgar Jesús, expressed some words regarding William Swaney's new mission: "His management has focused on improving access and efficiency of consular services, especially regarding visas and citizen assistance. Dominicans expect some changes that favor the applicant," said Jesús. In that sense, "Toy en Visa" significantly values Swaney's continued contribution and addition of his knowledge in consular services, as part of the development and improvement that will mark a milestone in the relevant procedures. Swaney's first assignment was in 1997 as vice consul, and then from 2019 to 2022 he served as consul general. He is a career member of the U.S. Foreign Service, with almost thirty years of experience in national and international missions. Her career includes positions in the National Passport Directorate, as well as in the consular sections of Paris, France; Yaoundé, Cameroon; in addition to her two previous missions in Santo Domingo. She was also part of a provincial reconstruction team in Afghanistan and served in the Netherlands. Similarly, in the United States, Swaney has held positions in the Office of International Organizations and in the State Department Operations Center. She holds a master's degree in International Affairs from George Washington University and a bachelor's degree from Bates College.

Visas in DR

During his presentation, Swaney highlighted the magnitude of the consular section he leads: "As Consul General, I have the honor of leading one of the largest, busiest, and most productive sections in the world. We receive around 2,000 applicants per day." Regarding the issuance of visas in the Dominican Republic, it was noted that approximately 200,000 visas were processed last year, including immigrant or residency visas. "We also issued more than 50,000 immigrant visas last year, more than any other diplomatic mission except Mexico," he stated.
