In the Gregorian calendar, March is the third month of the year and has 31 days. Its name derives from the Latin Martius, which was the first month of the Roman calendar. Martius in turn derives from Mars, the Latin name for Mars, Roman god of war.
During March, around the 20th or 21st (depending on the year), one of the two equinoxes of the year occurs. This is the spring equinox in the northern hemisphere and the autumn equinox for the southern hemisphere.

Birth of Francisco del Rosario Sánchez. Francisco del Rosario Sánchez is one of the great republican heroes in Dominican history.
