Abinader: "The most important thing is to save lives in the face of the passage of storm Melissa"

Santo Domingo.– President Luis Abinader assured on Tuesday night that the government's priority in the face of the passage of storm Melissa is to protect the lives of citizens, while announcing that the Executive will remain in permanent session to monitor the evolution of the phenomenon.

After leading a meeting with relief organizations at the National Palace, the president reported that, in addition to preventive actions, social assistance with food and medicine will be provided to the most affected communities.

“We are here, and the entire Government will remain in permanent session. But the main prevention must be done by each family. If you live in vulnerable areas, please go to safe places. The most important thing is to save lives,” expressed Abinader.

During the meeting, the director of the Emergency Operations Center (COE), Juan Manuel Méndez, announced that the provinces of Santo Domingo, Distrito Nacional, San Cristóbal, Peravia, Azua, Barahona, Pedernales, San José de Ocoa and San Juan were placed on red alert. Likewise, the suspension of classes this Wednesday and Thursday was ordered in the demarcations under this alert, in addition to the reduction of the working day until 1:00 in the afternoon in the public and private sectors.
